Longfellow Neighborhood Association, Iowa City

The Longfellow Neighborhood is a southeast neighborhood of Iowa City that surrounds the prominent Longfellow Elementary School. The neighborhood association was formed in 1991 to increase communication among members, promote interest and pride in the neighborhood, gather and distribute information concerning neighborhood residents, advocate on behalf of neighborhood integrity, and improve the livability of the Longfellow Neighborhood.

Longfellow Elementary Playground

Hangout with your favorite neighbors, play games, coffee, juice, pastries provided. Bring something to share if you can.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES

Do you have time to support community building in our neighborhood? Reach out. Here are a few ideas – but any support is welcome:
1. Babysit for Neighborhood Gatherings
  - We have grant funding to hire babysitters for neighborhood gatherings. Email if interested: iclongfellow@gmail.com
2. Help build a game shed (example)
  - We already have a neighbor willing to host, and budget to fill, but we need support creating the shed
3. Host a summer kickball game
4. Create neighborhood art
  - We have a stash of neighborhood chalk if you want to host a a Chalk Party on your block (ideas)
5. Be a “block captain”
  - Help hand out flyers for your block to get the word out about neighborhood events
  - Create a phone tree to help with emergency response
  - Have a welcome group for new neighbors
6. Be our website designer/editor
  - help keep the website up to date
  - add neighborhood resources
